You know what’s REALLY hard about making a list of 5 books to read to your kiddos? Keeping the list to only five! For a book lover like myself, it quickly became a list of 15, and then 16 and 17… You get the idea. I love books in general and children’s books in particular. So, I am resolving to share more of my favorite kids’ books with you soon. Especially my favorite Bibles for family worship. More on this later. For now, here are 5 great reads to share with your kiddos this summer.
- Last Stop on Market Street – There is so much I love about this book. Big and important themes of service, mutuality, community, and contentment are woven into a delightfully illustrated narrative that encourages us all to keep our eyes wide open in wonder to the people around us.
- Maybe I Can Love My Neighbor Too – A beautifully illustrated book inspiring ideas of how to love and serve those around us. Honing our focus on the everyday moments this summer that we can show the love of God to all our neighbors. Such a fun read!
- It Began with a Page – a true story of art, resilience, and overcoming. Beautifully illustrated, this book encourages living your calling and tells of the perseverance needed in order to do so.
- God’s Dream – At a time when polarization is increasing, we all need to recapture the vision of God: we are one human family. We are all children of God. “Each of us carries a piece of God’s heart within us. And when we love one another the pieces of God’s heart are made whole.”
- God Loves Me and All My Feelings – I know I’ve had a full range of feelings this past week. What we see around us is heartbreaking. We need to keep reminding kids, and ourselves, that we can bring all of our feelings to God. And that all of us – every part – is loved and accepted. Yes, I happen to know the author really well [smile], but you know I believe in this message, so I had to remind you of this one.
